“95% of everything you do is the result of habit.”

Why your habits matter?

Think about some of the things you did after you woke up today - slipping on your footwear, making your bed (if you're someone who does that), brushing your teeth, washing your face, patting your face dry. Those are 4 or 5 habits you do in just the first few minutes of waking up. As the day unfolds, there are many other habits that you go about doing. As human beings, you and I are creatures of habit.

Research* says that about 43% of what we do daily is habitual.

Are you able to see the power that habits hold in your life? And can you imagine the transformation you can bring about if you build good habits. It'll be phenomenal.

As James C Maxwell said,

“You'll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”

Want to change your life? Change your habits.

How I got started with Tiny Habits

I've always been intrigued by human behavior. As someone who develops learning solutions, I'd always wondered what is a foolproof way of enabling employees to do desired behaviors. I found a good answer in habits. Needless to say, the aim is not to make every behavior a habit.

I was also someone who thought of myself as 'beyond redemption' especially when it came to losing weight. I love food - chocolates, cheese, Chinese cuisine and most things that are fattening and unhealthy. As you know, love for food and the desire to lose weight don't make for good company.

Each year, for about the last 5 years - one of my New Year's Resolutions was some version of weight loss. I've tried different versions of goals - vague, specific, SMART goals - all of it. Nothing worked.

Most weeks I saw that I lost 1 or 2 kilos during the week and put on 3 kilos over the weekend. No kidding! There were times when I tried crash diets, miracle potions, or both and lost some weight; only to put them back on in a week or 2. And this was how it was for the LONGEST time.

During the pandemic induced lockdown, I gorged on so much unhealthy food that I touched a staggering 80 kilos. This was the heaviest I'd ever been.

That's when I started watching Dr BJ Fogg (BJ's) videos on Tiny Habits. The Tiny Habits Method came across as empathetic to me. BJ not only understood human behavior, he also truly understood the human condition.

Equipped with the Tiny Habits Method, I started working out regularly and steadily increased the duration. I lost 8 kilos in 7 months. Quite an achievement for someone who thought it was impossible.

This gave me hope and evidence that no one is beyond redemption and that everyone can change. And so, I've made it my mission to let people know the right way to create habits that stick - a system that can help them transform their lives.

Tiny is transformational!
